Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) covers individuals who have worked and paid into the Social Security benefits program. Your qualification is based on your total number of credits. On top of this, you may qualify for Supplemental Security Income (SSI), which provides additional financial support based on need.
Do you have to show the Social Security Administration (SSA) medical records to qualify?
Yes, you should. The SSA needs to look at your medical information to decide if you qualify for SSDI. If you don’t include medical information about your disability, then your claim may be rejected. If that happens, you’ll be able to appeal, but the process can take many months or years.
The application I submitted was rejected. What can I do?
If your claim was denied, you will receive a notice that explains why it was denied. You’ll be able to file an appeal with further supporting information to help you obtain the benefits you deserve.
